Birthday Cake Disappointment
Started By
I've wanted to create this thread for a long time and I can guarantee others have wanted to as well.
A lot of us are disappointed in the outcome of the Birthday Cakes, i.e, the Background Packs and the Shop Readers.
These are not rare or valuable items. I would normally say "eh, I'll just sell this" but there just isn't a market for background packs or Shop Readers. Heck, if you have a Merchant Perk you can get Shop Readers for free. Here are some facts:
- There are three pages of Background Packs in user shops right now and there are two pages of Shop Readers.
- There are 111 Yellow Sky BG Packs in existence. 26% of them are in user shops.
- There are 97 Blue Sky BG Packs in existence. 14% of them are in user shops.
- There are 106 Morning Mountain BG Packs in existence. 25% of them are in user shops.
- There are 97 Day Mountain BG Packs in existence. 24% of them are in user shops.
- There are 97 Eerie Mountain BG Packs in existence. 24% of them are in user shops.

1/4 of them are in user shops. Where are the rest? Either in-use or rotting in inventories like two of mine are.
The ones in user shops average at around $60,000.

If there are people out there that still enjoy getting Background Packs in their cakes, why not put them in the Cash Boutique? 'cause I'm pretty sure anybody who actually wants them could get the $$ to buy one for 50K in the usershops in only a couple days of playing the games on Ala.

I think the birthday cakes should give prizes under a certain amount of existence. I've been here for two birthdays and I've gotten a cheap bake sale item and a MFB which was for sale in stores at the time. <br /> <br /> Support

I agree about that.<br /> Would also like to see Homemade Dog Biscuits removed.

Support!

I'd also like to see some of the common, cheap bakery items removed as well. Support!

Heh, that would explain why someone found four cakes in a row the other night

We've reduced the amount of birthday cakes distributed during the most recent explore versus previous ones.<br /> <br /> Though there was an issue where one of the tiers seemed to have reset the other day to make it more common, but it appears to be fixed now.

Maybe birthday cakes shouldn't be offered as common prizes in explore events? Getting a BG pack for your birthday is really disappointing ... I support removing them.

I completley agree with removing these items from Birthday Cakes, their really no use unless for some reason you like to keep them hidden and un-used

I, myself, agree with the removal of these items.

I think that logic is very sensible if it were an individual's birthday/Christmas/other day present. :)<br /> <br /> Though being it is distributed much more often than once or twice a year per active user on average I don't think it would be a viable route until a different explanation is provided.

<i>"I don't think there's a legitimate argument thus far for removing lesser value items save to profit and gain high value without fail"</i><br /> <br /> It's just that they just aren't valuable or wanted anymore. It's like opening a gift thinking it's gonna be an awesome videogame and it turns out to be an old sock.

I would not mind requesting the addition of the Magical Dog Whistle for the Birthday cake if it has not been added already (though I believe it already is).<br /> <br /> I don't think there's a legitimate argument thus far for removing lesser value items save to profit and gain high value without fail which was not the intended purpose of the Birthday cake item.<br /> <br /> Birthday cakes are not difficult to procure, so there would need to be a justification that is not constant gain or personal disappointment on topic of game balance.<br /> <br /> I can request a more elaborate explanation on what "rare items" classify as on Alacrity to be placed somewhere such as the Alacrity Dictionary or other public areas if users feel there is confusion or misconception on the definition.

What if they were to add in other items to the cakes in exchange for taking out those two? For example, Magical Dog Whistle [I don't know if that's a perma thing or not]

I think this was asked before and the response was that Alacrity classifies "rare" as being unavailable in normal main stores (excluding boutique) and/or only available through special features such as rare item exchange, monthly store, birthday cake, etc.<br /> <br /> The pack is similar to receiving a lesser version of a monthly bag without a companion.<br /> <br /> I think you only really have about a 4 in near 90 chance of receiving a background pack.<br /> <br /> It was recognised by the administrators of the time that they wanted to expand the gambling pool for items instead of it being high odds of amazing items every time being it's not strictly distributed only on people's birthdays and actually flood the open market during event periods such as explore.<br /> <br /> This is not so much a debate towards your points than a statement of information from what I am aware of.<br /> <br /> My personal opinion is that there is potential for a compromise if it were removed from all other Alacrity events except an individual's birthday. Then I would not mind the odds of consistent high value objects. At the moment though users are receiving a constant free gift that could be anything in high/low value that costs them absolutely nothing but to refresh explore, which is pure profit in the end and only a question of how much.
